Our mission is for you to thrive this year.

New Teacher Masterminds:
Personalized, virtual support for new teachers.

Your first few years teaching don't have to be miserable.

That’s why we’re here to help.

The Mastermind Program Provides You:

Responsive professional development

No more sit-and-get workshops. Mastermind sessions ask you what you want help on and we focus on that.

A safe space to ask for help

We purposefully place you in groups with teachers and a mentor from outside of your building so you feel safe to open up.

A peek into other teachers' classrooms

Our sessions center on sharing what's working or not so we can learn from each other and know we're not alone in our challenges

Collaboration with teachers outside your school

What obstacles would you overcome if you could pick the brain of 8 brilliant educators for every challenge you face this year?

What people are saying:

What is the Mastermind Program?

Mastermind Small Group Sessions

The heart of the mastermind program.
Mastermind groups are comprised of 4-8 new teachers and a veteran teacher and meet via Zoom for 90 minutes twice a month.
Think of them as your teaching family for the year--teachers going through the same things as you and have your back.
As a member, you'll take turns in the “hot seat” where you share a teaching challenge and receive feedback and resources from the rest of the group. We also spend time reflecting, goal-setting, and exploring teaching strategies during each session.

Coaching

Monthly, virtual instructional coaching from an experienced teacher outside of your district (read: safe space) to dive deep into specific teaching skills or problem-solve a challenge.

Courses

On-demand online professional development courses and webinars to learn skills you're focusing on right now. No commitment to complete; but they're available when you need them.

Community

Interactive virtual events throughout each month specifically tailored to new teacher needs. These include live webinars, Q&A's with veteran teachers, co-planning/co-grading sessions, and more.

There’s something special about the mastermind program

that has been a huge part of the success that I’ve been experiencing…After an interaction with [the mentors from the program], I think about how they made me feel–that’s how I want my students to feel when they interact with me. Feeling encouraged, empowered, and ready to go out there and be able to present themselves to the world as a valuable asset. They do a solid job with that because they care.

FAQ

Most frequently asked questions and answers

We love our beginner teachers! Generally, this program is best-suited for teachers in your first 1-2 years of teaching if you went through a full teacher preparation program before teaching, OR in your first 1-4 years if you  went an Alternative Certification route. Any more experience than that, and teachers generally want to talk about different topics and skills than we focus on in the mastermind program.

Deadline to opt into tje 2021-2022 program is generally one week after you’ve been offered the program by your school administrator. This is so that we can provide you wrap-around support in preparing for the year as soon as you accept that job offer. If you find you change your mind after that one week passes, email us and your administrator!  info@newteachermasterminds.com

Both the Complete program and Mastermind Community option are year-long programs.

For the Mastermind Community events–we meet mostly in the evenings at various days/times throughout the months.

Small groups in the Mastermind Complete program for an 1.5 hours every other week between the hours of 4pm-9pm ET. Once enrolled, we work with you to find a session that works for your schedule which will meet at the same time every other week.

For the Mastermind Complete program, the minimum is 3.5 hours, though recommended is 6-8 hours so you can attend the Mastermind Community events relevant to you to maximize what you get out of the program.

For the Mastermind Community-only option, there is no requirement, though we recommend 4 hours/month (or 1 event/hour a week or every other week).

The New Teacher Mastermind program is an independent program outside of your district that your district has decided to offer you the option to enroll in. That’s kind of why we rock as a safe space–we don’t report what you open up about to your principals, and we connect you with teachers outside of your building. We’re not just outside of your evaluative team, we’re outside of your entire district.

No worries! You can drop the program and we’ll work with your administrator to replace a teacher in your slot.

We use Zoom as our meeting platform, which is a web-based application. You can access Zoom on any type of computer or tablet as well as their phone, as long as you have a webcam and microphone.

Teachers say one of the best things about the  mastermind program is that it’s way more interactive than a class. Typically classes include lectures, readings, or a some amount of pouring knowledge into your brain. Masterminds, on the other hand, focus on discussion and collaboration. We do have veteran teachers lead webinars and workshops on certain topics, and mastermind small group sessions do include studying some veteran teacher work, but the majority of what we do is interactive, hands-on, and immediately applicable to your classroom.

Yes, please! This tells your district that they have another slot they can offer a different teacher. Please opt in or out within one week of receiving an offer to enroll in the program.
